When Scenic Highway 30A closes to all traffic from East Water Street to Bridge Lane on the morning of November 26, where does the holiday morning go in Rosemary Beach?
The 15th annual 30A 10K Thanksgiving Day Races hold their packet pickup on Wednesday, with no race-day pickup and no race-day registration. The one in-town Thanksgiving meal offer we know of also has a Wednesday pickup. On Thursday morning, the road belongs to the race. Anything that needs a car gets done on Wednesday.
The race organizer posts the 2026 closure on the 30A 10K event page. It covers two roads.
| Road | Closed stretch | Used by | Posted window, Thursday, Nov. 26 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scenic Highway 30A | East Water Street, the start/finish in Rosemary Beach, east to the 10K turnaround at Bridge Lane, just east of The Big Chill | 10K | 7:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. |
| Watersound Parkway | From the 30A intersection north to the Camp Creek Inn entrance | 5K | Closed to traffic for the 5K route |
The reopening time isn't settled. The event page gives 10:30 a.m. The organizer's FAQ page says 30A is closed from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on the same date. If you're planning around the closure, use 11:00 a.m. and check with the organizer the week of the race.
The race schedule explains why the closure runs so long. The 10K starts at 7:30 a.m., and the 1-mile fun run follows at 7:35. The 5K doesn't start until 9:30 a.m. So the morning has two waves. The 10K field heads east along 30A to the Bridge Lane turnaround and back. Two hours after the first gun, the 5K runs up Watersound Parkway.
In its sponsor materials, the organizer cites reach of more than 3,350 runners and 6,000 spectators. For this year the 30A 10K is also the RRCA Florida State Championship 10K. RRCA awards go to the overall male and female finishers and to the 40+, 50+, 60+ and adaptive champions, on top of the race's own awards. Both courses are USATF-certified. The organizer's FAQ says the 10K "will start promptly at 7:30am."
Since race morning has no flexibility, the deadlines all land earlier. In order:
Steps three and four overlap. From 2 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, a household with a runner can pick up a race packet at The Big Chill and a turkey on Main Street. The Big Chill sits by the 10K turnaround and Edward's is in Rosemary Beach near the start, so that one afternoon trip covers both ends of Thursday's course while 30A is still open to cars.
On race morning, people reach Rosemary Beach on foot. The organizer says parking is limited. For anyone parking on the north side of Highway 98 at 30Avenue and walking in, the FAQ asks them to use the underground walking path for safety.
A few race rules shape how families plan the morning:
The 7:35 a.m. fun run is the morning's family event. It's the only race that allows strollers, and it starts five minutes after the 10K. A household can be done with it before the 5K field even lines up.
After the races, the awards ceremony and post-race party take over Barrett Square in Rosemary Beach. 30A.com lists a DJ, local vendors, breakfast and a free mimosa and Bloody Mary bar for adults. Every registered runner gets a race shirt and a custom finisher medal.
The morning also raises money. 30A.com reports that the series has donated more than $1 million to nonprofits over its history. The 2026 charity partners are Children in Crisis, Bailey Brigade, Habitat for Humanity of Walton County and Children's Volunteer Health Network. 30A.com says registration supports all four.
The race falls between two other late-fall dates in Rosemary Beach.
| Date | Event | Where and when |
|---|---|---|
| Saturday, Nov. 14 | Rosemary Beach Uncorked, 15th annual | 1 to 4 p.m., with local restaurants, wine and live music |

Of the three, only the Thanksgiving race has a posted 30A closure and a Wednesday pickup deadline. The Rosemary Beach 30A Farmers' Market runs Sundays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., year-round. November 29 is the Sunday after Thanksgiving, when 30A is open again.
On Thursday, November 26, 30A closes at 7:00 a.m. and the 10K starts at 7:30 at East Water Street. The 5K follows on Watersound Parkway at 9:30, and the road reopens at 10:30 or 11:00, depending on which organizer page you read.
At The Spears Group, we follow the 30A calendar because it shapes how a Rosemary Beach home is lived in, rented and shown. When you'd like to know how your property fits a season like this one, request a complimentary market valuation and luxury marketing plan.
